CHANNEL REBRAND/REFRESH

TV LAND have created a place for themselves on the cutting edge of original programming for Prime Time cable TV. Shows like Teachers and Heathers have proven to be huge hits with massive followings. The addition of YOUNGER to that roster meant that it was time to freshen up the previous years branding(also made at ROGER.TV). With the channel establishing itself as the home of original content for young adults 18-35 it made sense for us to keep some of the bold elements from previous years and add a visual and animation identity that clearly positioned them at the forefront of the demographic they have so successfully been able to keep happy. Constantly on the forefront my teams mind were two goals; reinforce the brands values and re-imagine the visual identity of the network into a cohesive, easy to use package. Modern, bold, snappy graphics were layered to create a toolkit that could be use network wide. A fantastic client throughout the process who couldn’t have made the project run any smoother.

Network Refresh

Animation in conjunction with the fantastic photography provided by the network set the foundation of the identity we built. With the plethora of photography we wanted to make sure they were incorporated in a way that gave freedom to change up the design going forward. It also meant that the shows with larger casts could focus on one person for a promo or on the entire cast depending on the situation. The mix of the photography and the textures we used worked as a perfect bookplate for a lot of fun typography. 2 different sans serif fonts were mixed using multiple weights and leaving the option to switch back and forth between italicized type and/or over-sized bleed to bleed type.

Color

Each of the 4 main shows on the network received their own color palette we created. A long process because all 4 shows needed to work together as well. On top of that we gave the internal team at TV Land a toolkit with 20 color pallet options. Coded and scripted to be as easy as possible to use this gave the entire re-brand legs to last much longer than a normal refresh would.

Paper Tears

A holdover from the previous rebrand made by Roger TV. As a nod to the previous years and to not confuse fans too much we decided to keep small pieces of what was an entire paper tear driven design.

Sample of Branding Guides and Rules

With all the options we gave the client for using multiple fonts, dozens of colors, and an endless amount of photography there had to be typography rules to ensure the identity was handled in a consistent way. We exhausted every possible layout imaginable and build all of them in a large easy-to-use toolkit. All of these rules were made for the final state of the animation, the lock up. In the build up to the lock up the rules are a lot less restrictive leaving room for fun and creativity.
